Massage as Medicine

A growing body of research supports the benefits of massage therapy for various conditions, including stress, chronic pain, chronic illness, anxiety and depression, and autoimmune disorders.

With years of dedicated training and hands-on experience, I blend advanced clinical expertise with deep respect for the body’s innate healing potential.

  • CranioSacral Therapy is a gentle yet powerful bodywork technique that identifies and releases tension patterns underlying chronic pain, illness, and unresolved injuries. The craniosacral system consists of the bones, membranes, and fluid that surround, protect, and nourish the brain and spinal cord—the central nervous system responsible for all bodily functions.

Within the vertebral column, the brain and spinal cord are enclosed by connective tissue membranes containing cerebrospinal fluid. This fluid bathes, protects, and nourishes the central nervous system, much like blood sustains other body tissues. These membranes also form a protective sleeve around each spinal nerve as it exits the vertebral column.

Like other connective tissues, these membranes are naturally flexible and pliable—until external forces cause contraction. Trauma can trigger the body’s protective mechanisms, creating restrictions within the craniosacral system. Recognizing this defensive response, CranioSacral Therapy uses an extraordinarily gentle touch—typically less than an ounce—to work with the body’s natural healing processes rather than against them. This approach facilitates profound therapeutic change without causing pain or additional resistance.

The craniosacral system moves in a rhythmic, pulsing motion driven by cerebrospinal fluid circulation. This Craniosacral Rhythm can be detected throughout the body. Skilled practitioners monitor variations in this rhythm to identify restrictions within the craniosacral system or the broader connective tissue network.

Treatment involves the gentle manipulation and release of connective tissue restrictions surrounding the brain, spinal cord, organs, muscles, and skeletal structures. As these restrictions resolve, clients may experience a range of sensory responses, including:

    • Warmth

    • Pulsing sensations

    • Deep relaxation

    • Emotional release

Because traumatic memories are often stored in connective tissue, therapeutic sessions may occasionally bring up emotions or memories related to the original injury. In these instances, the therapist and client work collaboratively to process the experience—often resulting in a significant reduction in associated pain and dysfunction.

Given the craniosacral system’s foundational role in bodily function, restrictions within it can lead to a wide range of symptoms, including:

    • Migraines and headaches

    • Neck and back pain

    • Chronic pain

    • Dizziness

    • Seizure disorders

    • Low energy

    • Compromised immune function

    • Tinnitus

    • Vision problems

    • Learning disabilities

    • Sleep disturbances

    • Numbness

  • Focused care for chronic pain, tension, and imbalance.

Persistent pain and chronic tension can deeply impact how we move, feel, and show up in daily life. Whether you're living with long-standing discomfort, repetitive stress injuries, postural imbalances, or the lingering effects of trauma or illness, targeted massage therapy offers focused, intentional support to help you find relief and reconnect with your body.

In my practice, I combine therapeutic techniques such as myofascial release, manual osteopathy, structural integration, and muscle energy techniques to address the root of your discomfort — not just the symptoms. These methods help release restrictions, improve mobility, restore balance, and support the body’s natural healing processes.

This work may be helpful for:

    • Chronic neck, back, or shoulder pain

    • Sciatica or nerve compression

    • Repetitive strain and overuse injuries

    • Fibromyalgia and other pain syndromes

    • TMJ dysfunction, tension headaches, or migraines

    • Postural strain from desk work, caregiving, or movement habits

Every session is tailored to your needs, your goals, and how your body is feeling that day. Whether you’re seeking lasting relief, greater ease in movement, or simply a space to be listened to and supported, this work meets you where you are.

This is not about forcing change, but about working with your body — using precise, compassionate touch to help you move through pain, regain function, and feel more at home in yourself.

  • Compassionate touch for every step of the journey.

Oncology massage is a gentle, customized approach to bodywork designed specifically for people living with cancer or who have a history of cancer. Whether you’re currently in treatment, in recovery, or navigating life after cancer, this type of massage is all about meeting you exactly where you are — with care, comfort, and respect.

As a massage therapist trained in oncology massage, I understand how cancer and its treatments can affect the body — from fatigue and pain to changes in skin sensitivity and energy levels. Each session is thoughtfully adapted to your unique needs, using light, nurturing techniques that support relaxation, reduce stress, and promote a sense of peace in your body.

    Oncology massage may help with:

    • Easing pain, tension, and anxiety

    • Improving sleep and relaxation

    • Supporting emotional well-being and body confidence

This is a space where you can simply be — no pressure, no expectations. Just safe, supportive touch when you need it most.

  • Comfort. Presence. Compassionate touch.

I am currently completing advanced training in palliative care through Healwell, an organization dedicated to integrating massage therapy into traditional healthcare settings. As part of this training, I’m fulfilling my clinical hours with By the Bay Health, where I provide in-home care for individuals living with a wide range of serious illnesses.

Palliative massage therapy is a gentle, supportive form of bodywork for those living with serious or life-limiting conditions. It focuses on comfort rather than cure — easing pain, calming anxiety, and offering a quiet sense of peace when it’s needed most.

In my private practice, I offer palliative massage with deep respect for each person’s experience. Sessions are unhurried, the pressure is gentle, and the intention is always to bring ease, connection, and care.

This kind of massage isn’t about “doing,” but about being — offering safe, nurturing touch that can bring relief to the body and comfort to the heart.

    Palliative massage may support:

    • Reducing physical discomfort, pain, or tension

    • Easing emotional stress, anxiety, and restlessness

    • Enhancing quality of life, even during fragile times

    • Supporting a sense of dignity, presence, and peace

Whether you're seeking care for yourself or someone you love, this is a space where all of you is welcome — where touch is offered with kindness, respect, and compassion.

  • Chi Nei Tsang is an ancient Taoist healing practice that harnesses the power of gentle, intentional abdominal massage to activate the body’s natural healing potential. Rooted in the profound wisdom of Chi Kung (Qigong), this therapeutic approach goes far beyond traditional massage to restore holistic well-being.

    Comprehensive Health Restoration

This powerful technique supports the body’s vital systems, including:

    • Digestive function

    • Metabolic balance

    • Detoxification processes

    • Lymphatic circulation

    • Hormonal regulation

    • Immune system strength

    • Respiratory efficiency

    • Overall blood circulation

    Targeted Healing for Persistent Conditions

Chi Nei Tsang offers hope and relief for stubborn abdominal and systemic issues such as:

    • Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

    • Chronic constipation

    • Surgical scar adhesions

    • Uterine fibroids

    Emotional and Physical Harmony

What sets Chi Nei Tsang apart is its revolutionary approach to healing. Rather than treating symptoms alone, it addresses the root causes of both physical and emotional imbalance.

By working with the body’s ability to “digest” not only food but also emotion and experience, this technique can offer profound transformation for long-standing challenges, including:

    • Depression

    • Anxiety

    • Insomnia

    • Chronic stress patterns

  • Support your body’s natural healing — one wavelength at a time.

Red light therapy is a gentle, non-invasive treatment that uses specific wavelengths of light to support healing, reduce inflammation, and promote tissue repair. In my practice, I integrate red light therapy into massage sessions if indicated to enhance results and offer deeper support for persistent pain, tension, or recovery.

This therapy works by delivering red and near-infrared light to the skin and underlying tissues. These wavelengths stimulate cellular energy (ATP production), which can help reduce inflammation, increase circulation, and accelerate the body’s natural healing response — all without heat, discomfort, or downtime.

Red light therapy may be helpful for:

    • Chronic muscle and joint pain

    • Inflammation and swelling

    • Scar tissue and soft tissue healing

    • Nerve pain or sensitivity

    • Skin health and collagen production

    • Enhancing recovery post-injury or surgery

Depending on your goals, I may use a red light therapy device as a stand-alone service or combine it with massage, myofascial release, or manual therapy for even more effective, layered support.

It’s a simple yet powerful addition that helps the body do what it’s designed to do — heal, restore, and thrive.

About

My journey into the healing arts began with a deep curiosity about the body’s innate ability to restore balance. This passion led me to a three-year residency at the Esalen Institute, where I immersed myself in transformative somatic practices, including Esalen Massage, Deep Bodywork, Feldenkrais, Craniosacral Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, yoga therapy, and 5 Rhythms Dance.

Building on this foundation, I pursued advanced clinical training and completed a year-long fellowship at the Osher Center for Integrative Health at UCSF. There, I earned specialized certifications in oncology, neurology, palliative care, and pediatric massage. I later served as Lead Massage Therapist at UCSF’s inpatient hospital, where I provided compassionate, integrative care for complex medical cases. Today, I continue this work at MarinHealth’s integrative outpatient clinic, helping patients navigate their healing journeys with both expertise and empathy.

Committed to lifelong learning, I am currently deepening my expertise in Manual Osteopathy, Craniosacral Therapy, and Visceral Manipulation. These specialized techniques refine my ability to assess and treat the body with precision, guiding the nervous system toward deeper regulation and re
